Black Community Civic Engagement

This is a project of the Community Innovators Lab (CoLab), part of MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning. Dayna Cunningham is Executive Director.

Black civic engagement: there is very little independent black press, no networks among black policy thinkers, and even fewer links between them and local community organizations. The black church have come under attack. What are the venues now for developing and disseminating a distinct black voice in politics and the larger society? Why does it matter?

To Dayna and others,

I used to know Dayna in the late 90's, when I was a doctoral student in city planning and an advisor on the White House Race Initiative. I now specialize in helping foster great public participation and civic engagement.

I curious to find blogs, listserves, social networking groups, or any other available mechanisms for connecting with African-americans (and perhaps others) who are interested how the challenges of ethnic inclusion interact with the challenges of creating greater public participation.
